History of The Rocks Estate:

The Rocks Estate is now the North Country Education and Conservation Center for The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, known at The Forest Society. When The Rocks was first created it was the summer home for one of the original owners of International Harvester, John Jacob Glessner. Glessner's son George had hay fever and for relief the Glessners would spend the summers in Bethlehem, renown for its clear air. In 1882 the Glessners bought what was the Oren Streeter Farm because of its sweeping views of the Presidential Mountains. As time went by Glessner continued to buy land until he eventually created a 2000 acre estate.

In 1978, 1400 acres of the original estate was donated to The Forest Society by Martha Batchelder and John Lee in order to protect their grandfather's legacy forever. The Christmas trees were first planted in 1989 following the request that there always been a crop in the fields. The trees now help to fund the conservation of The Rocks Estate. As you take this tour you will get to explore the estate and learn a little more about its fascinating history.
